CNU is expanding its AI convergence education capabilities to the stage of Korea-ASEAN international exchange.

CNU has been officially selected as a leading university that applies AI convergence talent training programs and education models to international exchange projects. CNU has been selected to perform the CAMPUS Asia-AIMS (ASEAN International Mobility for Students) project, organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education, for a third consecutive cycle.

With this selection for the 3rd cycle (2026–2030), following the 1st (2016–2020) and 2nd (2021–2025) cycles, CNU will have carried out the Korea-ASEAN higher education exchange project for a total of 15 years.

The CAMPUS Asia-AIMS project is a representative multilateral international exchange initiative aimed at strengthening higher education cooperation between Korea and ASEAN countries by supporting student exchange, joint curriculum operation, and global talent cultivation.

Having participated since the first cycle in 2016, CNU has had the honor of being selected for every consecutive cycle based on its stable operating system and accumulated achievements.

Through the 1st and 2nd AIMS projects, CNU established a cooperative network with 11 universities in 6 countries—Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines—which operates student dispatch and invitation exchange programs focused on AI and engineering fields.

In particular, by creating outcomes where participating students advance to graduate studies through major-linked exchanges and experiment/practice-centered education, CNU has established a virtuous cycle model where international exchange leads to attracting excellent foreign talent and securing research personnel.

The 3rd cycle project will run for five years from 2026 to 2030, during which CNU plans to operate the AI Convergence Talent Training Program for Sustainable Development as a core task.

The university aims to promote practical talent exchange and mutual growth between Korea and ASEAN through the expansion of English-taught AI and engineering courses, graduate student mentoring-based experiment/practice education, and visits to industries and research institutes linked to regional strategic industries.

CNU plans to implement an AI convergence education model that links education, research, and industry to the AIMS project, drawing on its experience in carrying out numerous AI-related national projects.

Among other excellent features, the industry-academia-research cooperation environment linked to the National AI Cluster in Gwangju is also identified as a key competitive advantage for CNU'\’s AIMS project.

Furthermore, CNU intends to link this 3rd cycle AIMS project with major government supported projects—such as 30 Glocal Institutions Initiative, the Gwangju-Jeonnam RISE project, and the K-STAR (Korea-Science & Technology Advanced Human Resources) visa track—to build a global talent training system that leads from international exchange to graduate school advancement, settlement, and employment.

Cho Jin-hyoung, Dean of International Affairs, stated, “The selection for the CAMPUS Asia-AIMS project for a third consecutive cycle is a recognition of the achievements and trust CNU has built in the field of Korea-ASEAN higher education cooperation over the past 15 years. We will continue to lead the qualitative growth of international exchange centered on AI convergence fields.”
